Tzu Chi’s Hari Raya Celebration
The Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration this year is different from the previous years. Due to COVID-19, our Muslim care recipients are unable to buy festive gifts nor are they able to have reunion with their families during the festive season. After discussion, Tzu Chi Singapore immediately applied for an outing permit from the government to send care and blessings to the Muslim care recipient families for Hari Raya.
Hari Raya is around the corner. After obtaining the permit from the government. Tzu Chi Singapore started gathering goods for distribution as a token of care and blessing to the Muslim care recipients.
Social Service Assistant - Joey Kiang Ann Xu ：We faced some problems in procurement especially on items like noodles. Because there is a rationing for essential items that limits the purchase of noodles to 2 units per person. So, we had to get the consent from NTUC’s person in charge before we could make the purchase.
Social Worker - Lee Yi Xuan：Because the pandemic is still around and they cannot reunite with their family. So, when we had our group discussion on whether to distribute these gift packs along with the cash. We unanimously agreed tobgive them some festive mood.
During a pandemic with minimum manpower and compliance with social distancing and very limited time of contact. Volunteers started distributing these gift packs from door to door.
care recipient - Yati：My father received your gift pack yesterday. He was very touched. He said, I cannot serve you all. Too bad we have to keep a safe distance, he feels bad but he appreciates it very much.
Keeping one meter apart care is still felt despite social distancing. A total of 171 Hari Raya gift packs have been distributed. As we celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. We pray for the speedy dissipation of the pandemic.
